Colonel Humphreys letter, 1786 December 18, to Governor Samuel Huntington.

Humphreys was charged with raising a Connecticut force to assist Massachusetts in suppressing Shays' Rebellion, an uprising by small farmers in western Massachusetts protesting against high land taxes and staggering debt. The letter explains Humphreys' difficulties in recruiting officers to command the force and recommends three men to replace them.
